My story

I am a Finnish artist and language teacher based in Lempäälä, in southern Finland. While teaching languages is my day job, painting has been my greatest passion since childhood. Language and art have a lot in common - both are systems of symbols, interpretation and meaning. That connection continues to inspire me.

I started drawing and painting as a child and was overall just creating something with my hands. Nature was always important to me as I would spend time roaming the forests around my childhood home in the middle of Ostrobothnian countryside. It was then I developed the curiosity for nature that shapes my work today.

Throughout my youth I attended painting and drawing courses and studied at a secondary school specialising in visual arts. Then, I studied languages and spent time living and working abroad. I’ve been building my artistic practice throughout the years exploring different media and styles. In my thirties, I completed a vocational qualification in visual media, where I also studied graphic design.

Building an art business has been a journey of experimentation, learning and persistence. Because painting is deeply personal to me, turning it into a profession also means finding the courage to share that part of myself with others. Art is my way of processing life and the surrounding world, after all.

I primarily work in acrylic and watercolour. All my larger painting are made with acrylics. Occasionally I like to create smaller pieces inspired by Nordic life using ink and watercolour.

Working in a semi-impressionist style, I transform my observations of Finnish plants and landscapes into vibrant acrylic paintings where colour, pattern and atmosphere become more important than realism. I am drawn to details that often go unnoticed like the colour of moss or patterns of fern leaves—these moments often become the starting point of my painting.

I live in a small town which is located to the south from a major Finnish town, Tampere. I love the slow pace of a smaller town where I can easily access quiet forest paths that I often explore while walking my Finnish Lapponian dog.

After some challenging years, I have found a new freedom in painting - a freedom to express myself more honestly and intuitively. Today my work is a celebration of colour, nature and life itself.
