Original Art Inspired by Nordic Nature
Lupines are tall, colourful and mighty. Roadsides are lined with their purple, pink and white every summer. Too bad lupine is considered a weed because it’s an invasive species here in Finland. A beautiful stranger!
Painting “Lupine” was a smooth process even though I almost ruined the colour balance. Luckily I realized that the lupine flowers should softly blend with the warm colours of the sunset in the background, not clash with them.
Lupines also have beautiful star-shaped leaves that easily gather morning dew.
I find lupines bold flowers as they flourish in an “alien” soil. They stand tall and reach for the sky with their spiky blossoms. I’m not gonna be the one to weed them out!

Ferns are so mystical, picturesque and elegant. Their vibrant green colour and slender pattrns are pleasing to look at. I often walk in forests where there are different types of ferns, and I’m always drawn to them.
In this painting, I wanted to capture a shadowy corner of a forest where ferns cover the forest floor. They wave lightly in the breeze as the night starts to fall…

This piece marked the ending of a long dry spell in my creative work. The painting was created very intuitively allowing the process unfold naturally. Painting “Under the Sea” felt relaxed, fun and playful. I see this piece as a celebration of colours as well as the freedom to express yourself.
The leading idea was to depict underwater corals in a whimsical, impressionistic way. The dark blue background makes the bold colours really pop!
